Maria Danilova is a Russian-American journalist and writer based in Washington D.C. Maria has spent more than a decade covering Russia and the former Soviet Union for the Associated Press. She also covered foreign affairs and education for the AP in Washington.

Her long-form work has been published in Tablet Magazine, Columbia Journalism Review, Yahoo Parenting, Brain Child Magazine, GQ and other outlets.

She holds a Master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University, a Master’s degree in political science from Central European University and a Bachelor’s degree in linguistics from Moscow State University. Maria was a Knight-Bagehot fellow in business journalism at Columbia University in 2014-2015. She is currently an Alicia Patterson Fellow.

Besides English and Russian, she speaks French, German and Ukrainian.
